Marcellus Wiley to Appear on Gale King Show, Monday, August 1st at 10:05am ET

The OptimisSport Distance Swim Challenge is proud to announce Marcellus Wiley's appearance on the Gayle King Show on Monday, August 1st at 10:05am ET. Marcellus will be discussing his commitment to reduce drowning rates among minority youth, his successful 1.2-mile swim in last year's Distance Swim Challenge and explain how people can join him and other celebrity athletes at the 2011 Distance Swim Challenge on August 21st in Los Angeles, California. The appearance will be broadcast on Oprah Radio (XM 111/Sirius 204) and Oprah's OWN Network (check local listings for channel information).


Lester Wood's Not So 'Excellent' Adventure

Winner of the non-wetsuit division to be recognized in the International Swimming Hall of Fame

The International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame has its memorabilia and archives in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and online at www.imshof.org. The Hall of Fame will recognize the fastest, oldest and youngest swimmers of each gender at the Distance Swim Challenge at each distance (1.2, 2.4, 4.8 and 12.6) who compete without a wetsuit. This is your opportunity to be entered in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame that celebrates the exploits of the world's greatest open water swimmers from 1875 to the present.


Alan Morelli brings a big-time open-water event to Southern California

It was April of 2009. Alan Morelli, a wrestler during his college days at Rutgers in New Jersey and later an age-group triathlete, was riding his bike down Mulholland Drive when a motorcyclist made an illegal U-turn right in front of him. Endurance swim challenge from Manhattan Beach Pier to Santa Monica Pier to be held in October

Swimmers who believe they have the skills to go the distance will have the chance to prove it October 16th in a competition featuring a 12.6-mile course from the Manhattan Beach Pier to the Santa Monica Pier. 
 
OptimisSport and Santa Monica-based Heal the Bay, which announced the event earlier this month, said the Distance Swim Challenge has been designed to test the limits of some of the best endurance athletes in the world. Read Full Article


Swim race between Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach piers announced

A 12.6-mile open water swim competition will take place this fall in the Santa Monica Bay, with a course linking the Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach piers.

The Distance Swim Challenge was announced this week by the environmental group Heal the Bay and OptimisSport, a company that develops training tools for physical therapists, athletic trainers and coaches. Read full article
