Travel
Getting to Los Angeles is easy and you have many options.
Flying
LAX Airport, Los Angeles’ largest airport is also the most convenient for the OptimisSportDistance Swim Challenge. It is located just south of Marina del Rey. Additional airports around LA include BUR (Burbank), LGB (Long Beach], ONT (Ontario), VNY (Van Nuys).
Taxis
Taxis with the official “City of Los Angeles Taxicab Seal” are insured, are regularly inspected and have trained drivers. All licensed taxis have meters, but may offer a flat rate for trips from LAX to Downtown LA. There is a surcharge for taxis originating at LAX. Your best bet for a taxi is to ask hotel or restaurant staff for assistance in calling a cab before leaving the premises.
Rental Car
Most major car rental companies have counters at LAX and the other area airports. The car rental parking lots at LAX are off-site. Shuttles pick up in front of all terminals under the designated signs.
Driving in LA
LA does have more than its share of traffic congestion, but it is not impossible to navigate. Freeways and streets are usually well marked. Traffic reports are broadcast every six to ten minutes on AM Radio 1640 and 980.
Tip: Due to a shortage of left turn lanes, especially in Hollywood, watch out for 5 cars turning left in intersections after the light turns red.
