DSC Youth Team ChallengeThe Distance Swim Challenge is thrilled to announce the introduction of The Youth Team Challenge to this year's Distance Swim Challenge. SummaryThe Youth Team Challenge offers a unique forum for age group aquatic teams (18u) to compete against each other in an open water swim for prizes, while helping raise funds for the American Heart Association, Children's Hospital LA, and Exceeding Expectations. This is a great team building event for swim teams in a non-traditional forum, and a fun way to train for those coaches who want to keep their athletes active in the off season. There are three competition levels for teams by age group, 18u, 16u, and a 14u based on age the day of the competition. Swimmers may cross-compete in higher age groups. An 18u team may have a 16u and/or 14u swimmer but a 14u team may not have a 16u or 18u swimmer. The EventsWe have designed 3 events for participating teams:
The 4.8 mile relay is divided into four 1.2 mile sections. Swimmers will be set off at the 4.8 mile relay start point with the adults participating in 4.8 mile relay swim. Both the 1.2 mile and 500m events will take place at the same starting point in Venice. We highly encourage teams to enter multiple relay teams to improve their chances at winning a prize and increase overall participation. Entering Your Team/ How much will this cost?We encourage each team participate in the 4.8 mile relay, and offer the individual events as a personal challenge to their swimmers. Swimmers will enter under their team name. There is a four swimmer requirement per relay team. The cost of entry is a flat $25.00 per swimmer for all events they choose to participate in, with an additional $200.00 fundraising minimum for the entire team. For each team of four swimmers, the cost is $25.00 per swimmer + $200 team fundraising minimum = $300.00 minimum entry. The $25.00 swimmer entry cost permits swimmers to participate in the individual events. ScoringTeams will compete based on participation and performance in their events. The team who scores the highest will take home the Youth Challenge Cup and a cash prize. Participation is measured in two categories, number of participating swimmers and fundraising. The top five teams with the most participants will score 20, 18, 16, 14, and 12 points for their teams. The top five teams with the highest fundraising total will score 20, 18, 16, 14, and 12 points for their team. Performance points are based on placement in the events. The top 5 relay teams in each age group will score 18, 16, 14, 12, 10 points for their team and awarded a prize for placement. Additionally, the top 5 swimmers in the individual events will score 18, 16, 14, 12, 10 points towards their team and an individual award. The team with the highest score will take home the Youth Challenge Cup and a Cash prize based on the overall number of youth participants. If 300 individuals participate the cash prize is $500, If 500 individuals participate the cash prize is $1000, and If 700 individuals participate the cash prize is $2000. If 1,000+ individuals participate the cash prize is $2,500 For more information or to sign up email info@distanceswimchallenge.com. |
